Abacus Bracelet

The creative journey which led to ABACUS DREAMS was not a straight line, but rather intersecting and overlapping ideas that resolved themselves in what you now see. The important fact is that this occurred after I had finished planning a very different bracelet. I have had this happen repeatedly, so I do not worry about the phenomenon. In fact, often the ideas that have been worked out in the planning and then rejected reform themselves into a later piece that, while very different, would not have been possible without the prior work. What occurred in this instance was changing the profile of the pieces by using sugar loaf cuts on the gem stones instead of a faceted cut, because I wanted a less formal look. This in turn led to the idea of opening up the geometric pattern of the bracelet. Then, why not mix the colors of the gem stones? (Partially because I really couldnt decide which one I liked best!) And, having made that change, each individual gem stone was set so that it moved like the beads on an abacus! This all seems rather logical now as I write this. But, in this situation, my ideas came unbidden, one at a time during a two hour meeting with my work-master. We both thought that the meeting would be short and just to confirm details not an entire redesign! So, now you know the secret. I hope you like the piece cast in 18 karat gold with 72 individually set gem stones totaling a bit more than 60 carats -- all of which slide! The Abacus Dreams Bracelet is set entirely in 18kt Yellow Gold, with a dazzling array of 16 Madeira Citrines (13.60cts), 16 Blue Topaz (14.50cts), 20 Peridot (17.75cts) and 20 Amethyst (14.70cts).
